THE QUESTION IS:
WHAT IS THE QUESTION?

You’d love to get started right away, but still have a question or two? To make the start as easy as possible for you, below you’ll find a small selection of frequently asked questions and answers (FAQ)!

FAQ

What lesson models are there?

You can find an overview of the different options and course formats at BEAT ACADEMY here.

How much do the courses cost?

You can find the prices for our DJ and producing courses here.

Is it possible to get to know BEAT ACADEMY first?

Absolutely! You can tisit the academy in person and get to know our teachers and the course content. You can book an appointment for a free consultation directly here.

Is there parking nearby?

BEAT ACADEMY is located right in downtown Dortmund. There are parking spaces along the entire street, although in the mornings they are also used by the vocational schools. There is also a large parking garage at Kuckelke, within walking distance.

Is BEAT ACADEMY accessible by public transport?

BEAT ACADEMY is about a 10-minute walk from Dortmund Central Station. The subway stations “Brügmannplatz” (U42 and U46) and “Geschwister-Scholl-Straße” (U44) are each only a few meters away. The “Reinoldikirche” subway station (U42, U43, U44, and U46) is also less than a 10-minute walk away.

Is there somewhere to park a bike?

There are plenty of bike racks right outside our door!

When are the lesson times?

Group course lessons usually start in the afternoon and run until late in the evening. If an earlier time of day suits you better, or you work shifts, for example, feel free to talk to us! Intensive courses are scheduled flexibly.

How often do lessons take place?

That depends primarily on which lesson format you choose. Since many students have a longer commute, the two-week rhythm has proven itself for our regularly scheduled course formats. Intensive courses and flex courses are arranged individually.

Do I have to practice at home?

No, but practice makes perfect! As with any musical instrument, you only become more skilled and confident through practice. If you want to take DJing or music production seriously, practicing is more than worthwhile.

If you ever can’t find enough time to practice, you don’t need to worry before the next lesson about falling behind. Our teachers repeat the material again and again and bring you back on board!

How long does the training take?

Music is art, and there is no defined “end” here. The time you spend at BEAT ACADEMY can’t be generalized, since every student has different goals and expectations. Learning DJing and producing is essentially comparable to learning a musical instrument. Just because someone explains for an hour how to play a guitar doesn’t mean you’ll be able to play it. That takes many hours of practice, both at school and privately. Do you want to play a few chords around the campfire or sound like Jimi Hendrix? That’s up to you, and we’ll help you reach your goal!

Is the school wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately not. We’re on the 5th floor of a training center. The building has an elevator, but it only goes up to the 4th floor, so unfortunately we can’t be reached with a wheelchair.

I have a physical disability. Can I still take part?

Yes! After talking with you about your motor abilities, we’ll adapt to your situation as best we can.

When do I have to pay for lessons?

Payment is automated. With a direct debit authorization issued by you or your legal guardians, the monthly fee is debited directly from your account on the 1st of each month. Doesn’t work for you? No problem: alternatively, you can also transfer the full amount yourself.

Please not that some course concept have to be paid in adcance!

Do I have to bring my own equipment?

No! BEAT ACADEMY is equipped with up-to-date technology, so you don’t have to bring your own equipment. Given the variety of equipment out there, it’s clear that we can’t have every model from every brand on site. So if you’d like to learn on a specific device (one you have at home), you’re very welcome to bring it. Depending on how long you stay in our program, you should bring your own laptop, USB stick, or record bag with your favorite music at some point. This isn’t necessary in the first lessons. For hygiene reasons, we always ask you to bring your own headphones. If you don’t yet have suitable headphones, our instructors will help you with buying tips in the first session.

Do I need my own equipment at home?

No, but if you want to deepen what you’ve learned at home and are able to, you’ll reach your personal goal much faster! Practice also supports your ear training and helps you build routine in your workflows.

Can I buy equipment from you?

No, but we have partners who give you discounts as a student of BEAT ACADEMY. Just talk to us and we’ll arrange it for you.

Will I always have lessons with the same teacher?

Yes. Your assigned teacher generally accompanies you throughout your time at BEAT ACADEMY.

Do lessons always take place at BEAT ACADEMY?

Yes, for lessons you always come to us.

Do I need prior musical experience?

No. Of course it doesn’t hurt, but no prior musical experience is necessary, although you should of course enjoy listening to music. We teach you everything you need to know for DJing and/or producing.

How old do I have to be for lessons?

You can get started with us from age 14. However, we expect you to be serious about learning. If you are under 18, we need permission from your legal guardians.

What is the maximum age?

You’re never too old to learn something new! Older students are welcome here too!

Can I start at any time?

One-on-one lessons can start on short notice. Group lessons start once (at most) 4 participants have been found whose prior knowledge is on an equal footing and who have similar goals. This way we make sure you’re always at the same performance level as your fellow students.

What happens if I can no longer attend the sessions for my group?

If something changes in your personal weekly schedule, let us know as early as possible. We’ll then look for an alternative group for you or pause the lessons until we find a solution or a new course date for you.

Are lessons I can’t attend made up?

No, unfortunately that’s not possible. But don’t worry: if you’re out for a longer period, for example due to illness, you can pause lessons and make them up at a later point, possibly in a different course.
